Course Description –

Clinical case series will demonstrate the latest science based guidelines for prevention and management of peri-implantitis. 

Surgeons, restorative dentists, hygienists and advanced dental assistants will find this presentation useful in their daily practice.

 

Course objectives: 

1. Review patient factors as well as surgical and restorative techniques that that can cause bone loss around implants leading to peri-implantitis. 

2. Review treatment strategies to prevent and manage peri-implantitis.

3. Review treatment strategies during the maintenance phase of dental implants to manage peri-implantitis.

4. Review the role of guided surgery, implant connections and lasers in the implant practice as it relates to bone loss around implants. 

Speaker Info –

Dr. Mehrdad Favagehi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration. 

Together with his wife. Dr. Lourdes Ann Christopher, Dr. Favagehi maintains a private practice focusing on periodontics and dental implant surgery in Falls Church, Virginia. 

Dr. Favagehi received his DDS from the Medical College of Virginia of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 1994. He received his specialty training in Periodontics at Ohio State University in 1997, where he also received a Master’s in Oral Biology with a thesis on oral wound healing. 

 

Dr. Favagehi has been an adjunct faculty member at VCU School of Dentistry since 1998 and in 2011 received a teaching award from the American Academy of Periodontology.

He serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Osseointegration Foundation and Editor of the Academy of Osseointegration Newsletter.
