Clinical Licensure Renewal: Radiology, Pain Management, Child Abuse Training

2 CE credits appropriate for dentists, hygienists, EFDAs and all office personnel
Scope of Services Radiation Safety for Pennsylvania Dental Professionals (two hours, as required by the PA DEP)
The purpose of this course is to identify and review the applicable Pennsylvania radiation safety regulations for dental professionals, including the requirements of Pennsylvania Code Title 25 §221.11. The Refresher Training topics listed in “Appendix A” will be discussed, such as the properties of radiation, hazards and effects; and radiation protection methods and procedures.
About the Speaker – Karen Pass
Karen Pass is the co-founder and principal compliance consultant for inUnison Consulting, LLC, providing workshops and seminars as well as comprehensive onsite OSHA Safety and HIPAA regulatory compliance programs, audit support, and implementation assistance for dental, medical and veterinary facilities. Her additional areas of expertise include infection control; infection prevention and CDC Guidelines; radiation safety and workplace harassment.
Ms. Pass received her BS in Health Arts from the University of St. Francis and is board-certified in radiologic sciences. Ms. Pass has no relevant financial relationships to disclose.
Act 124 – Pain Management / Opiods – Dr. Michael Kaner
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
2 CE credits required for dentists who hold a DEA registration or use another DEA number to prescribe controlled substances. 2 CE credits also appropriate for hygienists and dental assistants.
The lecture will fulfill the Act 124 of 2016, CE requirement for dentists who have a current DEA registration or use another DEA number (as permitted by law) to prescribe controlled substances. Pain management, identification of addiction and the practices of prescribing opioids will be discussed.
Upon completion of the course, the participant will:
Understand the pathology and physiology of pain and addiction.
Suggest alternative therapies for pain management.
Assess treatment programs and understand how to refer for treatment.
Cite the history and politics of opioids.
Be aware of doctor prescribing habits.
Act 31 – Child Abuse Recognition & Reporting for Dental Professionals
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
2 CE credits required every licensure cycle for dentists, hygienists, EFDAs and recommended for all office personnel
PDA’s program, Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting for Dental Professionals, is approved by the Department of Human Services and the PA State Board of Dentistry and will fulfill Act 31 mandatory CE requirements for licensed dental professionals (dentists, hygienists and EFDAs).
Upon completion of the course, the participant will:
Understand categories of child abuse as defined by the Child Protective Services Law.
Recognize universal child abuse indicators.
Recognize clinical and intraoral pathologies of physical and sexual abuse.
Understand the legal responsibilities as mandated reporters.
Know when, how and where to report suspected abuse, and what happens after a report is made.
Understand the protections for reporters and penalties for failure to report.
About the Speaker –
Angela M. Stout, DMD, MPH
Dr. Stout is a pediatric dentist in private practice in Erdenheim, PA as well as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University. She specializes in the care of infants, children, adolescents, and special needs patients and especially enjoys her relationship with many of the families that are part of the Trisomy 21 Program.
